The Manistee County Jail is located at 1525 E Parkdale Ave and is attached to the Sheriff’s Office. Jail Administrator Chris Banicki is committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and secure facility, ensuring it is operated with the utmost professionalism. Correctional Deputies serve with pride and dedication to provide courteous professional service with respect for all inmates. Ongoing annual training keeps deputies up to date on policies and procedures.

Facts about the Jail

  1. The current jail was built in 1989. Which provided three blocks for inmates based on classifications along with a holding cell and two detox/holding cells up front by Central Control.
  2. The jail had an addition in 2009 which added three more blocks. One large one for male inmates and two for female inmates.
  3. The jail has a capacity of 82.
  4. The Central Control room gives the Correction Deputies the resources needed to monitor the security of the facility 24/7.

The jail offers a variety of different resources and programs for inmates. Within the facility the inmates have access to a recreational room with a library with a wide range of ready material from novels to legal books. This room also provides different work out equipment that the inmates can utilize. The jail provides help to those incarcerated with mental health, medical care, rehabilitation programming and other needs.

New Technological Additions

  1. In 2024, the jail added video visitation stations in each block for all inmates in general population. This provides them the options to video call their friends and loved ones.
  2. The body scanner was implemented in 2024 and is utilized every time someone gets lodged. Scanning provides a search method to help keep contraband from coming into the jail.
