Animal Control

Jon Brown joins us as our new Animal Control Deputy in charge of the Manistee County Sheriff’s Animal Control Division. Deputy Brown brings over 6 years of experience to the team having served in Grand Traverse County prior and is Certified through NACA (National Animal Care and Control Association). 

Deputy Brown brings not only his years of experience and knowledge to the county but also has a passion for all animals and is known as an avid dog lover.

Functions

  • Protect the health, safety, and welfare of citizens and animals in Manistee County
  • Enforce State Laws and Local Ordinances pertaining to animal control
  • Minimize danger and nuisances caused by irresponsible pet ownership
  • Protect pets from abuse, neglect, and homelessness
  • Provide temporary housing and care of homeless animals
  • Coordinate adoptions with Homeward Bound Animal Shelter

Please note that ACO does not handle non-domesticated animals such as deer, raccoons, skunks or any other such animals. Contact your local Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for complaints of that nature.

Licensing Information & Fees

All dogs 4 months of age or older must be licensed and have a current rabies vaccination. Tags must be kept on the dog. Licenses are available at the Manistee County Treasurer’s Office or the Humane Society. Please contact either office directly for details.
