STOPPED, Sheriff’s Telling Our Parents and Promoting Educated Drivers, is a partnership between the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, the Michigan Sheriff’s Association, and AAA of Michigan working to promote teen driver safety and accountability. This program has also been adopted by several other Law Enforcement Agencies within the state and works with any participating agency.
Parents registering for the free service will receive a stop sign decal with a unique number, which they place on their back window. When deputies see the sticker on a vehicle they’ve pulled over, the agency will send a letter to the parents of the teen with the following information:
- Time
- Location
- Number of passengers
- Reason for the stop
- Whether or not a citation was issued
The program is free to all participants thanks to AAA of Michigan and the Michigan Sheriff’s Association. To enroll your vehicles in the program, please visit the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association’s STOPPED page.
